“Captain to the bridge! We’re under attack!”
BattleCards is a game that is similar in mechanics to Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Pokemon, but that can be played with an ordinary deck of playing cards. Each player is a base on a planet trying to destroy the other. To do this, players deploy and upgrade ships and launch missiles and sneak attacks, trying to take out the other while maintaining their own defenses. A base is destroyed when it has taken ten points of damage, at which time its player loses the game.
Players draw from the same deck and have the same discard pile, meaning that merely owning superior cards cannot be a factor in the outcome of a game. This means that there are fewer cards with special rules to remember, making it an ideal first step for those interested in learning more about collectible trading card games. It’s also ideal on family trips and the like, when not all those who might wish to play already have a deck of their own.
